Dear brides,
We see this all the time. You get engaged and the first thing you do is run to tell your friends and family, go wedding dress shopping, find a venue, and before you know it, you are overwhelmed trying to figure out if that photographer your cousin recommended is really a professional, if that catering company should be trusted with your reception, and should you go with the decorator the venue is recommending or should you do it yourself.
Somehow, somewhere, a huge step is missed and that is in the hiring of a professional wedding planner to help you plan, organize, vet your vendors, and more. We understand that friends and family are going to want to help on your big day and sometimes we might think that by accepting that help, we will be saving money. What tends to happen is that you end up spending more money, are stressed out, and sometimes end up having to hire a wedding planner late in the game to fix issues that could’ve been avoided from the get-go.
First off, a wedding planner can help you stay within your budget. They know what the average cost of each vendor category is, and they can advise you as to what should be prioritized, what can wait, what is worth spending a little more, and what should not be costing you so much money.
Second, a professional and established wedding planner comes with recommendations for other professional wedding vendors. Based on what you are looking for, what your budget is, and what experience you want for your guests, a professional wedding planner will provide you with the research already done, help set up appointments for you, vetted list of preferred vendors. If there is something you need that is outside the box, they can do the research, saving you time.
A wedding planner also serves as your wedding-related assistant, meaning, your phone will not be blown up with questions from vendors because you have a wedding planner, who takes care of all those little details. Most wedding planners will have a series of documents that they fill out with you and your groom so that when a vendor needs something, they can provide the answers. Also, on the day of your wedding, you want to be enjoying yourself, not receiving a ton of calls alerting you as to who has arrived, what is needed, etc. That is why a wedding planner will transition to a wedding coordinator on the day of your wedding.
One of our favorite tasks as wedding planners is helping brides and grooms with the wedding etiquette portion of the planning process. Professional wedding planners help you with the wording of your invitation, help you set up your seating chart, how to politely tell someone that they aren’t invited, determining clothing attire, and more. We get that some things you can easily type into your phone and get an answer, but a wedding planner will help you personalize your event and help you with any sticky situations that might arise.
If you are engaged and you are about to start your wedding plans, before you go find a venue or a wedding dress, please please please consider meeting with wedding planners. In the long run, wedding planners will save you money and provide you with a stress-free experience.
Sincerely,
A professional wedding planner
